ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT

What is orthodontics?

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry specializing in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. The technical term for these problems is "malocclusion", which means an incorrect contact relationship between the upper teeth. Orthodontics seeks harmony between teeth, lips and jaw bones, providing an adequate balance.

When to look for a specialist in Orthodontics?

A specialist should be sought after full milk dentition or at any  stage of adulthood. From the age of 4, it is already possible to detect bite problems  and start treatment with techniques appropriate for their age. At this age, it is  common to observe problems related to mouth breathing, the habit of sucking a finger  or a pacifier, tongue interposition (speaking by sticking the tongue out or interposing

the tongue between the teeth during swallowing).  Early examination of a child allows the orthodontist to assess and detect possible

orthodontic or orthopedic (skeletal) problems, and can plan some treatment if necessary.

Can orthodontics treat adult patients?

In the past, orthodontic treatment was related to children. However,  the basic process involved in moving teeth is the same at any age  and adults can benefit from orthodontic treatment as well.

Why look for a correct alignment of teeth?

Considering the proper contact between the upper and lower teeth, the correct  positioning of the teeth contributes to better chewing.

Teeth that are poorly positioned or that don't fit right are difficult to keep clean and consequently,

are more susceptible to the occurrence of caries, gum disease

and tooth loss. They also cause an overload of the masticatory muscles, which can lead to headaches,

pain in the back, neck, shoulders and ears.

A person's self-esteem often improves as the teeth, lip and face are brought into harmony.

In this case, orthodontic treatment can benefit social and professional success, as well as improve the attitude of a person.

person with regard to life.

How long does an orthodontic treatment last?

For each patient, we build an individual treatment plan according to the diagnosis, the type of treatment  involved and their cooperation in the process. In some cases, the treatment may end before the deadline and in others, it may take  longer to complete.

What happens if orthodontic problems are not treated?

Badly positioned teeth can facilitate the onset of caries and periodontal diseases (loss of bone around the teeth) due to the difficulty  of cleaning teeth when they are not well aligned. Protruding teeth (front teeth are more susceptible to trauma and fractures. Misaligned teeth can damage the individual's self-esteem.  Muscle pain, facial pain, and other functional problems can occur due to lack of orthodontic treatment.
