Prosthesis

WHAT IS DENTAL PROSTHESIS?

It is the specialty of dentistry responsible for the rehabilitation of lost teeth, through fixed prostheses, removable prostheses and recently by modern implant prostheses, recovering the aesthetic, phonetic and masticatory functions of the mouth.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHICH TYPE OF PROSTHESIS IS BEST FOR MY CASE?

An initial evaluation and an image exam (radiographs and/or tomography) are necessary so that we can plan and define the best treatment options.

WHY DOES THE LOST TOOTH NEED TO BE REPLACED?

For the perfect performance of their functions, the teeth need to be in balance in the dental arches. The absence of teeth can cause problems with joint pain (TMJ), tooth movement, causing malocclusion, difficulty in chewing food, aesthetic and phonetic problems, thus impairing general health.

WHAT TYPES OF DENTAL PROSTHESIS ARE EXISTING?

There are basically 3 types of dentures: fixed dentures, removable dentures, implant dentures.

WHAT IS A FIXED PROSTHESIS?

They are prostheses that replace one or more missing teeth, resting on the roots of neighboring teeth, they are also known as fixed bridges, crowns, jackets and pivot. it is called "fixed" because it cannot be removed by the patient.

WHAT IS A REMOVABLE PROSTHESIS?

It is a prosthesis that replaces lost natural teeth, partially (Removable partial prosthesis-PPR- or mobile bridge) or Total (denture). It's called removable because it can be taken out whenever he wants.

WHAT IS AN IMPLANT PROSTHESIS?

It is the prosthesis that replaces one or more missing teeth by attaching themselves to artificial roots, called implants. they can be fixed or removable. for fixed prostheses, or implants will function as if they were the natural roots. As for removable dentures (called overdune), implants will offer greater retention, stability and aesthetics, increasing their effectiveness and safety.

AND DURING TREATMENT, HOW DO I STAY?

You will use an adequate temporary protection (prosthesis), allowing a great improvement in chewing, speaking and smiling.

TIPS

The most important step to ensure the longevity of your prosthesis is to have good oral hygiene practice.

Removable dentures must be removed for cleaning, always after food ingestion, through careful brushing of all surfaces and with the help of cylindrical brushes, beutral soap and toothpaste, and without the use of excessive force.

Fixed dentures must be sanitized with the use of toothbrushes, dental floss and "thread" in addition to toothpaste.

The longevity of dentures is about 5 years, but relines and repairs to the dentures are common and must be performed by a competent professional.
